Experiential education provides the student with the opportunity to translate the didactic and theoretical knowledge of the classroom into the skills necessary to function proficiently in the practice setting. As such, it is interwoven throughout the professional years of the pharmacy program as an integral component of the curriculum. The introductory practice experiences, which are situated in the first and second years of the professional program, focus on the general practice of pharmacy in both a community pharmacy and acute care institutional setting. These early practice experiences are product and process-oriented. The advanced practice experiences, which are situated in the final year of the curriculum, focus primarily on patient care and medication therapy management. In addition to the core experiences served in acute care/institutional, ambulatory and community pharmacy settings, students have the opportunity to participate in elective practice experiences over a wide array of alternate settings. |
