The Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences is comprised of three disciplines: Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry. The Division provides Pharm.D. students the basic pharmaceutical science education that underlies training to become a pharmacist, and provides M.S. and Ph.D. level graduate students the advanced pharmaceutical science education required to succeed as researchers in academic, industry and government settings. The first weblink below leads to descriptions of all Divisional faculty, including educational background, teaching assignments, research interests, and grant and publication history. A broad base of research expertise is demonstrated that includes preformulation development, excipient development, drug delivery systems, carcinogenesis and chemotherapeutic strategies, behavioral and molecular CNS pharmacology, CNS medicinal chemistry, computer-based educational tools/receptor modeling/rational drug design, materials science, and near-infrared spectroscopy with respect to chemometric methods and process analytical technology. The second weblink leads to the Duquesne University Center for Pharmaceutical Technology (DCPT), also housed within the Division. The DCPT is committed to the advancement of pharmaceutical manufacturing through the application of appropriate technologies for the improvement of safety, quality and efficiency throughout the pharmaceutical industry.
