Joseph C. Fleishaker, Ph.D., of Wildwood, Mo., has been named the 2009 University of Kentucky Outstanding Graduate Program Alumni for the Pharmaceutical Sciences. Fleishaker received his Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences from the UK College of Pharmacy in 1987. He is interim head of inflammation clinical research and vice president of site head for pharmacokinetics, dynamics and metabolism (PDM) at Pfizer's St. Louis Laboratories.
Established in 2006, the goal of the award is to honor graduates of the program in recognition of their accomplishments and contributions to scholarship, education, and research in the pharmaceutical sciences. Fleishaker will be honored at the UK reception at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Annual Meeting set for Nov. 8-12, 2009, in Los Angeles. He also will be invited to be a featured speaker at the Pharmaceutical Science Research Day Meeting (formerly the Postgraduate Conference) with an upcoming date to be determined.
Dr. Fleishaker has worked in large pharma for 21 years with 19 years experience in clinical pharmacology and translational medicine, including two years leading a preclinical drug metabolism group. Currently, he leads a team of 55 scientists in the St. Louis Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics and Metabolism unit. He is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and AAPS.
